FOTON Marks 1-Millionth Export Milestone and Factory Opening in Thailand
BEIJING, Dec. 2, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — On November 27, 2024, FOTON celebrated the inauguration of its FOTON CP (Thailand) factory and the production of its 1-millionth export vehicle. Held during the 2025 FOTON Asia-Pacific Partners Conference in Bangkok, the event was attended by over 400 guests, including Thai officials, industry leaders, and global partners.
The Thailand factory, a joint venture with CP Group, spans 37,000 square meters and produces a full range of commercial vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks, light trucks, and buses. It also plays a key role in FOTON’s regional expansion into ASEAN markets. To align with Thailand’s sustainability goals, FOTON plans to introduce a comprehensive lineup of new energy commercial vehicles, providing cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions to the region.
This milestone reflects FOTON’s 20-year journey from exporting products to achieving industrial chain localization. Backed by global partners like Cummins, ZF, and CATL, FOTON integrates advanced manufacturing systems and technologies to drive growth in traditional and new energy markets.
Globally, FOTON’s dual-path strategy of internal combustion and new energy vehicles has positioned it as a leader in commercial mobility. In Europe, FOTON has launched pure electric trucks in Italy, Poland, and Spain, while collaborating with Piaggio and IVECO on electric vehicle projects. In Latin America, FOTON has delivered over 1,400 electric buses, making Chile a leader in electric bus adoption, with hydrogen and electric buses also serving markets such as Mexico and Colombia.
FOTON’s international strategy prioritizes localization, with 22 knock-down (KD) plants worldwide and a focus on fostering partnerships through technology and equity investments. The Thailand factory strengthens its Asia-Pacific presence, while plans are underway to expand into Indonesia and Vietnam.
With a commitment to green energy and sustainable growth, FOTON continues to lead in the global commercial vehicle market, shaping the future of mobility across Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific.
